Egypt Bench Salah as The Palancas Negras on Brink of Elimination from AFCON.

An exciting set-piece action from the match.

Fredy delivered a superb set-piece onto the woodwork as the two sides shared a stalemate.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah and Manchester City counterpart Omar Marmoush remained unused substitutes as Group B winners Egypt played out a stalemate with Angola at the Afcon 2025.

The seven-time champions, having already secured top spot, deployed an entirely changed starting XI and were missing a cutting edge in the Moroccan city.

Angola, who needed a victory to stand a chance of progressing, will now endure an anxious period to see if their two points is enough to advance for the last 16 as one of the four best-placed third-place teams.

Several other nations are already guaranteed at least third place in their respective groups, all boasting three points.

Match Highlights

Winger Fredy rattled the woodwork for Angola shortly after the second half, while Zizo – one of three players introduced by the Pharaohs – tested goalkeeper Hugo Marques' fingertips with a shot from inside the box.

Salah and Marmoush had scored earlier in the tournament in comeback wins over Zimbabwe and South Africa, respectively.

Egypt will stay in Agadir to meet a runner-up from another group next Monday, with their next rival to be determined after the preliminary round concludes on Wednesday.

In the other Group B finale, South Africa's 3-2 win over Zimbabwe propelled Bafana Bafana into the next round, putting Angola on the outside looking in.

Pharaohs Miss Salah and Marmoush Absence

Mohamed Salah watching the match from the sidelines.

Mohamed Salah watched Egypt draw a blank in an Afcon match for the first occasion since the 2021 tournament decider.

With top spot wrapped up, Egypt coach Hossam Hassan likely expected a more convincing attacking performance from his second string.

The striker, who scored four goals at the 2023 finals, set up an first-half chance for Hossam Abdelmaguid, but the centre-back looped his header over the target.

Angola, having made multiple rotations themselves, almost went ahead when Chico Banza combined with Mabululu before firing a low drive wide.

The first half ended without a shot on target, though Fredy caused goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir into a save with a thunderous long-range strike.

The Angolan captain was the most dangerous threat, seeing a set-piece elude the goalkeeper but crash against the woodwork.

At the other end, Salah Mohsen was left in disbelief after almost tapping in a cross, only for the goal to be flagged offside.

Late attempts from M'Bala Nzola and Hamdi Fathy failed to break the deadlock, leaving the match finished goalless.

For Angola, quarter-finalists in 2023, their inconsistent showings in Morocco will lead to scrutiny about their recent coaching decision.
