A New Era in Panem The film's narrative are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games. The film welcomes several prominent actors in important characters: Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
